Phyllis J. Wild, of Waukesha died peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018 at age 86 in her residence at Avalon Square. She was born May 14, 1932 in Lohrville, Wisconsin to Amedeo and Mary (nee Cappelletti) D’Orazio.
Phyllis attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1949 to 1953 where she majored in English. About that time, she met the love of her life, Harry J. Wild, who she later married on August 20, 1955. After working 2 years as an English teacher, Phyllis left her career in education to raise her two children, Joseph Wild, of Nashua, NH and Michael Wild, of Wauwatosa.
In addition to her two sons, Phyllis is survived by her sister, Arlene Mamerow of Sussex; her nephew, Jeff Mamerow, his wife Penny and their son Alan of Colgate, WI; her two daughters in law, Rose Wild, of Nashua, NH and Mary Beth Wild of Wauwatosa. Phyllis is also survived by five grandchildren as well as five great grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Kyle Meyer, his wife Ky, and their two children, Oryon and Eden, of Athens, GA; Ian Meyer, his wife Tina, and their two children Carissa and Cameron of Menomonee Falls; Molly Wild, of Cambridge, MA; Sean Meyer, his wife Ashley, and their daughter Rosita of Colorado Springs, CO; and Tess Wild of Keene, NH.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Harry, who passed away on November 27, 2008.
At the age of 21 Phyllis was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In response to that diagnosis Phyllis educated herself to the point of becoming a valuable and passionate resource within the diabetes-community. As a result, Phyllis used her knowledge to help many others diagnosed with diabetes. She was able to manage her disease to the extent of avoiding many of the consequences associated with it. Phyllis lived a long, productive life, raising 2 sons, travelling, and maintaining many friends and interests.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 3:00PM until time of the 6:00PM funeral service at Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Interment will be in a small family only ceremony at St. Joseph Cemetery at 10:00 AM on Thursday, Aug 16, 2018. Memorials are appreciated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) 3333 N.
