Rebecca "Becky" J.A. Murray

October 31, 1955 — November 9, 2024

West Allis

Rebecca “Becky” J.A. Murray of West Allis passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Aurora Zilber Family Hospice on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at age 69. She put up a long and admirable fight against lymphoma. Her family is incredibly proud of her willingness to fight as long as she did. She was born in Galesburg, IL on October 31, 1955 the daughter of Glenn and Imogene (Kennedy) Anderson. On May 27, 1979 she married her loving and devoted husband James “Jim” Murray and together they have been residents of West Allis’s famed “Candy Cane Lane” for over 20 years. Becky was an active member of her community and church, Ascension Lutheran in Waukesha. Becky was a talented seamstress. She made multiple dresses, and other apparel for anyone who needed or wanted something unique. Becky was her happiest self when she was creating. A talented drawer and crafter, she could make anything out of nothing in no time at all. This talent was especially helpful when her children or grandchildren would come to her with a need for a specific costume with only a day or two notice. She was just as talented at stretching a dollar as far as it could go. Give Becky a roll of duct tape or a jug of vinegar and she could make, fix, or clean just about anything. Becky enjoyed singing, music, word puzzles, and getting into tomfoolery with her sisters and friends. She worked for many years as a speech pathologist and was a strong advocate for those with special needs. She had a soft heart for anyone who needed a little extra love.

Most of all Becky cherished her family, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Becky was given the grandma name of “Mimi” and wore it proudly. She adored living close to her grandchildren and seeing them as much as possible. She always made herself available whenever they needed or wanted her. It was often joked that her grandkids could do no wrong in her eyes - so much so that her only rule for them at her house was “try not to eat the dog food.”

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 45 years, Jim and their children, Patrick Murray, Rachel (Marc) Schultz and Amy (Zach) Morin; her three treasured grandchildren, Henry, Ellis and Mabel Schultz; her sisters, Beth (the late Philip) Dralle, Debbie Breen, Kristen (Dan Hereth) Anderson-Hereth, Abby (Robert) Murphy, Sarah (Gary) Scott and Mary (Phil) Fauble; brother-in-law Steve Dyer; sister-in-law Juli (Fred) Carmichael; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Daniel Anderson and sister Angela Dyer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp Street Waukesha from 1:30 PM until the 3:00 PM funeral service. Reception to follow. Memorials in Becky’s name are appreciated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, United Cerebral Palsy or to Zilber Hospice Facility.
