Richard Abplanalp (Dick), 85, a lifelong Waukesha resident was surrounded by family, as he went to be with the Lord, after a long battle with cancer on Monday, July 30, 2018.
Born Richard Clarence Abplanalp, to Paul and Josephine (Kowalski) Abplanalp, on December 24, 1932, he graduated Waukesha High School in 1951, graduated Carroll College in 1963 with a business degree, and appreciated the challenges of the foundry industry where he made many lifelong friends.
US Army Korean War Veteran and member of the American Legion Post 8, he was devoted to his wife, Barbara for 63 years, cherished his children Mary, Carol, Janet, Rich, and John, and was proud Grandpa to 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
His biggest love was time with family and was rarely seen without a fishing pole by his side. Backyard BBQs were not complete without him as chef, a Brewer game on the radio, time to reminisce with friends and a view of his vegetable and rose gardens. His voice was made for singing. Dick enjoyed a good deer hunt and the hunt for a good rummage sale. He not only played basketball as a teenager, but inspired children as their basketball coach. He seemed to know someone everywhere he went and truly meant it when he said "keep in touch".
He is survived by his wife Barbara, children Mary (Jeff) Ramthun, Carol (Mike) Majeskie, Janet (David) Anderson, Rich (Angie) Abplanalp, John (Denise) Abplanalp, grandchildren Rachel, Jason, Michael (Brittani), Katie (Jake), Daniel (Michelle), Nathan, Patrick (Sia), Dustin (Hannah), Amanda, Alaina, Aric, Nina, and Shayna, 9 great-grandchildren, his sister Sally, his fishing buddy Russell, dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many extended family members, along with the kindest neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ben and Bill, sisters Barbara and Nancy, grandson Travin, in-laws Robert & Margaret, sister-in-law Pat, brother-in-law Denny, nephews, Don, Ken, Jeff, Kris, Tom, and Brock, niece Katherine, and too many friends.
