Waukesha-Richard C. Garvens, age 92 of Waukesha, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at the Virginia Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on January 24, 1914 in the Town of Genesee to Enos and Mabel (nee Torhorst) Garvens. On February 24, 1940 he married the former Edith Varley. She preceded him in death on November 20, 1999. He started out in life as a farmer. For many years he custom ground feed for the many area farms. He then worked for the Wisconsin State Hatchery and also for Waldschmidt and Sons where he retired after 26 years. He is survived by his children: Howard (Sharon) Garvens of Waukesha and Janet (John) Pingel of New Auburn, WI; grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Groskreutz, Stephanie (Mike) Adrihan, Shannon (fiance' Ben Neeser) Pingel, Shawn Pingel and Shelly Pingel; brothers: Ralph (the late Leona) Garvens of Waukesha and Robert (the late Lorraine) Garvens of East Troy and a sister-in-law; Edith Garvens of East Troy. Other relatives and friends also survive. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister Esther; brothers Alfred and Harvey and his daughter Shirley Carstensen. Visitation for Richard will be held on Friday, September 8, 2006 from 10:30 A.M. until the 12:00 Noon Funeral Service all at the First United Methodist Church, 121 Wisconsin Avenue, Waukesha.
