Richard D. McDermott (aka Big Rich) of Waukesha passed away at AngelsGrace Hospice on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, his 76th birthday. He was born in Granite City, IL on October 18, 1941 the son of Thomas and Mabel (nee Duskey) McDermott. Richard met Susan Folker in 1961, at Dave’s Restaurant in Waukesha and on December 29, 1962, he married Susan, his beloved wife of over 54 years. Richard worked for Arby Construction, now KS Energies and was a member of the Steamfitters Local 601. Richard was a hard-working man and he would often say, “make them proud” as we left for work. He was an avid bowler, secretary of his bowling league, fishing enthusiast and without doubt one of the most loyal diehard Green Bay Packers fan. Big Rich had a great sense of humor, told the best jokes and also knew how to throw a Fourth of July party back in the day. Most of all he cherished the time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Susan of Waukesha and their children, Laura McDermott of Waukesha, Karri McDermott of Waukesha, Dan (Renee) McDermott of Albany, WI and Joe McDermott of Waukesha. He was the proud grandfather of Michael, Megan, Matt, Marcus, Tyler, Hailey, Ryan, Emma, Connor, Natalie, Joey and Delaney. He is further survived by his faithful and furry companion, Tootsie, his brother-in-law Fred (Joan) Albers of Mt. Olive, IL along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer McDermott, granddaughter Megan McDermott, brother Donald and sisters Barbara Frye, Joan Albers and Delores Smith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5:30 pm until the 8:00 pm time of sharing in celebration of Rich’s life at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI.
