Richard John Schemberger was born March 15, 1946 to Herma and John Schemberger in Milwaukee, WI. He was baptized at the Veteran’s Administration Chapel in Milwaukee and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hartland. He was proud to have served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was married to Jan Larson at West Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osceola, WI in 1982. He loved his family with his entire being and was ecstatic when his sons, Christopher and Michael were born. He was a wonderful husband; father, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor to everyone.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Herma and John Schemberger, grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as parents-in-law and sister-in-law, Jo Hodel.
Dick is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jan (nee: Larson); two wonderful sons, Christopher and Michael, Michael’s wife Desiree and granddaughter Ella, the light of his life. Sisters Judy Czajkowski (Tom), Linda Miller (Bill); brothers and sisters-in-law, LeRoy Hodel, Gerald Larson (Kathleen), Arvin Larson (Becky) and Daryle Larson (Velma) along with many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Dick worked many years in the warehouse at Holsum Foods, Nabisco and Godfrey Foods (later Fleming Foods). He was also a custodian at his family Church, St. John’s Lutheran in Brookfield. When he retired, he enjoyed walking the mall at Brookfield Square and had many friends there he enjoyed spending time with.
He enjoyed growing up on St. James Street in Wauwatosa where the Schemberger families lived close to each other and he, his sisters and his cousins grew up together. It was very special and, in recent years, were fortunate to have small reunions and walk the street as they shared their very special memories of growing up there. When he was about 12, his family moved to a beautiful home on Pewaukee Lake where again many special times were spent with family and friends.
He was an avid bowler for years and was a devoted Packer fan.
We have lived in the same home for 37 years, being blessed with the best neighbors anyone could ever imagine! He enjoyed many, many special times with our neighborhood family and has left us with so many special memories.
He was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
Memorial services with full military honors will be held Saturday August 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Dick's yard that he took so much pride in, 21500 W. Orchard Dr. New Berlin, WI 53146.
