Robert Ackerberg

Robert E. Ackerberg of Waukesha, formerly of Wilmette and Evanston, IL, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at the age of 99.  He was born on September 22, 1911 in Chicago, the son of Robert E. and Betty V. (nee Kjallman) Ackerberg.  He graduated from Dartmouth College and later from the University of Michigan Law School.  Robert was united in marriage to Geraldine Starrett in 1939 at First United Methodist Church in Evanston, IL; she preceded him in death in March of 2006.  He was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  In 1957, he joined the law firm of Schiff Hardin where he became a partner.  For half of his career, he was an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, leaving as the Chief Law Officer of the Chicago Regional Office.  In retirement, Robert was an active member of the First United Methodist church in Evanston and the North Shore Senior Center.  He will be deeply missed by his daughters:  Joan (John) Clausz of Waukesha and Susan Ackerberg of Santa Rosa, CA; grandchildren:  Daniel (Wendy) Clausz of Appleton, Sharon Clausz of Milwaukee and Cindy (John) Valdelomar of Santa Rosa, CA.  He is further survived by 5 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Ackerberg. Private services will be held.  Memorials in Robert’s name may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
