Robert Dougherty

January 21, 1930 — March 31, 2010

Robert A. Dougherty, of Milwaukee, formerly of Waukesha, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Care-Age of Brookfield at the age of 80.  He was born on January 21, 1930 in Milwaukee, the son of Albert and Julia (nee:  Bankit) Dougherty.  He proudly served his country in the U.S.                Army during the Korean Conflict.  On October 16, 1954 he married the former Barbara Krausslach who preceded him in death on May 26, 2000.   He was a very active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waukesha, where he served on the parish council and traveled with youth groups.  He also volunteered for many blood drives and area hospice organizations.  While living in Waukesha, he served as County Supervisor and Alderman, and was involved in various other civic activities.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 427.  During retirement, he began writing children’s books with hopes of having them published in the future.  He will be sadly missed by his children, Brian (Patti) Dougherty of Mattoon, IL, Kevin Dougherty of Pontiac, MI, Maureen (Rod) Goldberg of Cincinnati, OH, Michael (Angela) Dougherty of Westmont, IL, Steven Dougherty of Wauwatosa, Kerry (Michael) Schemmel of Milwaukee, Timothy (Pam) Dougherty of Coloma, MI, and Christopher Dougherty of Bay View, WI; 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.  He is further survived by his sister Kathleen Bugnacki of South Milwaukee, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; brothers: Richard and William; and brother-in-law Norbert Bugnacki.  Visitation will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010 from 4:00 PM until the 8:00 PM Vigil Service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI.  Services continue on Tuesday, April 6, with prayers at the funeral home at 9:45 AM, followed by a procession to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, WI, for the 10:30 AM funeral Mass.  Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of WI, 16655 W. Bluemound Rd.
