Ruth Knoebel died peacefully early, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Seasons Hospice in Waukesha at the age of 91. A Waukesha native, Ruth was born on May 17, 1920, the daughter of Carl and Laura Leberman. She attended Waukesha High School, worked briefly at Davis Greene Printing and lived her entire life in the city. Ruth was a long-time member of St. Joseph and St. Mary Catholic parishes. Ruth will be sadly missed by her husband of 70 years, Charles Knoebel, retired conductor from the Milwaukee Road, and her two sons, Rev. Thomas Knoebel, vice-rector at Sacred Heart School of Theology, Hales Corners WI and John Knoebel, a publishing executive of New York City. She is also survived by one sister, Pearl Stearns, and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, long time Waukesha Freeman employee Roy Leberman, and sisters Esther Redmond, Hazel Hopf and Harriet Bailey. Ruth very much enjoyed the many long automobile trips she took with her husband throughout the United States. She will be remembered as a quiet, kind and loving person who was an excellent cook and deeply committed to her family and friends. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral Mass Saturday, June 4, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha. Her son the Rev. Thomas Knoebel will preside. Burial will immediately follow the funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, 1650 East Broadway in Waukesha.
