Sonia del Carmen Evans, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 60. She was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on April 29, 1955 the daughter of Angel Hernandez and Rosalva Espinet Sosa. Sonia was a 1977 graduate of Carroll College and earned her Master’s Degree from UWM in Curriculum and Education. On June 24, 1978 she married William “Bill” Evans and together they were members of St. Mary Catholic Church. Sonia taught 3rd grade bilingual at Whiterock Elementary School, 6th grade at Bethesda Elementary and 6th grade at Butler Middle School retiring in 2014 after 37 years of teaching. In 2002 Sonia was proud to have received the Kohl Teacher Fellowship Award. Sonia served on the board of La Casa de Esperanza and was active in her sorority Alpha xi Delta. She enjoyed rubber stamping and was a member of several online stamping groups but most of all she loved being with her family and will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother.
She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband Bill of Waukesha, her cherished daughters Marisol (Jason Frenn) del Carmen Evans of Green Bay and Sara Evans of Waukesha as well as Truc Anh Nguyen. She is further survived by her brother Luis Alberto Hernandez of Florida, her step-mother Dulce Diaz Suarez, along with other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Kathryn Evans.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Randle-Dable-Brisk Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Avenue, Waukesha. Visitation continues on Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Avenue, Waukesha, WI 53186 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the 11:00 a.m. funeral Mass. Graveside services will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials in Sonia’s name are appreciated to the American Cancer Society, N19 W24350 Riverwood Dr., Waukesha, WI 53188.
