Sylvester “Syl” Grochowski, Jr. of Waukesha, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. He was born on March 17, 1938 in Milwaukee, the son of Sylvester Sr. and Anastasia “Nettie” (Nowak) Grochowski. After serving his country in the National Guard, Syl worked for over 20 years at Louis Allis in Milwaukee. Later he received an associate’s degree and began a career in social work. He most recently worked with children at Oconomowoc Developmental Training Center for many years before retirement. Syl had a love of the outdoors and especially enjoyed gardening. But most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Syl will be deeply missed by his dear friend and former wife, Joan Grochowski of Burlington; his children: David (Jean) Grochowski of Elkhorn, Daniel (Christine) Grochowski of Eagle, and Jane (Mark) Collins of Waterford; his grandchildren: Anastasia, Mitchell, Nate, and Sammy Grochowski, and Christopher and Michaela Collins; his brothers: Delroy (Barbara) Grochowski of Hancock, WI and Dennis (late Judith) Grochowski of Wind Lake. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece, Trudy. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 4:00 PM until the 7:00 PM prayer service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha, WI.
