Sylvester J. “Les” Martin of Waukesha, died Monday, October 5, 2009 at ManorCare in Pewaukee at the age of 84. He was born on December 9, 1924 in Chicago, IL, the son of Sylvester E. and Gertrude (Moller) Martin. Les was united in marriage to Helene Munson on August 31, 1946; she preceded him in death in 2003. Les proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, then worked as a police officer for the city of Chicago for many years. After moving to Waukesha, Les worked for the City of Waukesha until retirement. He was a member of the Illinois Police Association, Civil War Club, and the Waukesha Old Car Club. Les will be deeply missed by his children: Linda (Al) Richman of Milwaukee, Cynthia (Gary) Wilbur of Hartland, and Steven (Barbara) Martin of Tomahawk, WI; two grandchildren: Alysa Wilbur-Campbell and Leslie Wilbur; 3 great-grandchildren: Mya Helene and Zackary Gary Schultz, and Jada Graham Campbell; and nephew, Dennis Martin of Chicago. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 11:00 AM until the 1:00 PM memorial service at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S. Grand Ave., Waukesha. Chaplain Scott Hatfield will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery will full military honors provided by D.J. Martin American Legion Post #8 of Waukesha.
