Sylvia F. Wenzel died on Friday, January 9, 2015 at her Pewaukee residence at the age of 89 years. She was born in Mayville, WI on January 3, 1926 to John and Frances (Nee Huck) Bachmann. Sylvia began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Ironridge, WI and continued in Waukesha. She was a much- loved 2nd grade teacher at St. Mary’s Catholic School for more than 20 years. Her students remember her for the many science projects, including Bird Books and environmental awareness projects. Sylvia was ahead of her time regarding environmental issues and she took much time to enlighten her students and make them aware of how they could make this world a better place. In her retirement, she enjoyed working at Walmart in Delafield. On December 31, 1951 she married George Wenzel, Jr., who preceded her in death on May 13, 1982.
She will be sadly missed by her children: Barbara (the late William) Blawat of New Berlin; Georgene (Curtis) John of South Lake Tahoe, CA; Judy (Alan) Jensen of Scottsdale, AZ; and Jennifer Liessmann of Pewaukee. She is the beloved grandmother of: Brynn (Jon) Kanikula, Brenton Blawat, Erik & Peter Jensen, Justin & Kelly Liessmann (Mark Liessmann, their father); great grandmother to Caliett and Evie Kanikula. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends and her beloved four legged friend Frutze.
In addition to her husband, George, she was preceded in death by her sister Gertrude Mielke and her brother Harold Bachmann.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 10:30 AM until the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 225 S. Hartwell Ave., Waukesha, WI.
