Ted Charles Schmitz, of Waukesha, died Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Waukesha Memorial Hospital at the age of 54. He was born on December 23, 1964, in Waukesha, the son of Frederick Schmitz and Elizabeth LaPaz. Ted was a Christian man who loved God. He wasn’t a perfect man, but everyone loved him. Ted was seen as a gentle giant who was compassionate, had a generous heart, a great sense of humor and a love of animals. His outgoing personality and fun demeanor brought joy to those he came in contact with. He was always willing to help anyone that needed help with moving, painting, cooking, cleaning, anything that was needed. He was actively involved with the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) and in 2014 was nominated Volunteer of the Year. He had worked at First Baptist Church in Waukesha and volunteered at Spring City Corner Clubhouse. He was loved by many many friends and family.
He will be sadly missed by his mother Elizabeth LaPaz of Waukesha; his brothers Timothy (Reba) Schmitz and Thomas Schmitz; his sisters Tammy Schmitz and Tina (Michael) Johnson all of Waukesha. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Frederick and his sister Theresa Schmitz.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at First Baptist Church, 247 Wisconsin Ave. in Waukesha at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Chakravarthy Zadda honoring Ted’s life. Please dress casually, how Ted would remember you. Memorials in Ted’s name are appreciated to any non-profit mental health organization.
