Violet R. Lewis, of Waukesha, died on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at AngelsGrace Hospice at the age of 93. She was born in New Berlin on December 4, 1922 the daughter of Adam and Leona (nee Golemgeske) Kern. On August 9, 1941 she married Charles Lewis in Waukesha; he preceded her in death on October 25, 1983. Violet was a longtime member of Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years, was a member of the choir and ladies guild and volunteered at the day school library. She was also a member of the Servicemen’s Wives Club and a News-Kit staff member. Most of all, Violet loved being with her family and she will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Richard Lewis of Waukesha and Terri Congemi of Helenville, her grandchildren Cindy (Rob) Leichtfuss and Tim (Jody) Congemi and her great-grandchildren Tyler Congemi and Jake and Joey Leichtfuss. She is further survived by her brothers, Henry Kern and Harvey Kern along with many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Lester “Bud” and her sisters, Lucy Zimmerman, Audrey Bainbridge and Lorraine Westphal.
A private funeral service for close friends and family will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Mount Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church, 1941 Madison Street, Waukesha, WI 53188. Pastor Michael Turriff will preside. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Memorials in Violet’s name are appreciated to the church.
