Virginia "Ginny" L. Steiner

Virginia (Ginny) Lee Steiner, 91, of Waukesha, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 4, 2025. Virginia was born on April 12, 1933, to William and Esther Scheuermann. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, in October, 2020.

Growing up in Oshkosh, Virginia attended Roosevelt Elementary and Junior-High School. After graduating from Oshkosh High School with highest honors, she attended Oshkosh State Teacher’s College (UW Oshkosh) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She later earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from UW Whitewater. 

Virginia’s first teaching position was in a one-room country school, teaching first through eighth grade. When John took a teaching position in Kaukauna, Virginia drove north to teach first and second grade on the Oneida Reservation. John and Virginia welcomed their only child, Lisa, in early 1957. 

Not long after, John accepted a teaching position in Waukesha. Virginia, mainly a first-grade teacher by that time, then began a career in the Waukesha Public School District that would see her teach at Union School and Saratoga Elementary School, with her final two years at Summit View Elementary School. Virginia taught for 40 years, and she put much time, thought, and effort into her work.

Virginia had a lifelong love of reading. She was an early avid reader and worked at the Oshkosh Public Library during her high school and college years. In retirement, she looked forward to daily crossword puzzles. Virginia enjoyed traveling with family members, and her granddaughter, Aimee, has many treasured memories of their numerous trips across the United States and Canada. 

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther; her husband, John; and her brother-in-law, Alfred Sang; as well as many other dear relatives and close friends. She is survived by her sister, Marion Sang; her daughter, Lisa Rabidoux (James Heller); her granddaughter, Aimee (Ryan) Busse; and her very cherished great-grandchildren, Jade, Avi, Ina, and Adrian Busse.

Virginia was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Waukesha.

A graveside service for the family with interment will be at Riverside Cemetery of Oshkosh.
