William “Bill” D. Hazel passed away peacefully on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born in Constance, Kentucky on D-Day, June 6, 1944, the son of Royal and Adeline (nee Grey) Hazel. He was a 1962 graduate of Marenisco Roosevelt High School, Marenisco, Michigan. Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in Vietnam. On September 15, 1973, he married the former Cynthia Beller at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma. Bill enjoyed working as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #139 in Pewaukee since 1976. He worked on many projects around the Midwest including the Milwaukee Deep tunnel Project, constructing berths for casino boats on Lake Michigan in Indiana, and the construction of Miller Park. Bill was a member of the Bralick-Miller VFW Post 5270 in Genesee as well as D. J. Martin American Legion Post 8, Waukesha. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing trips with his family, antique power, scenic travel and driving the back roads especially if they were unpaved!
He will be missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Cynthia, their son Michael (Melody) Hazel of Palmyra, grandchildren Dalton and Savannah Hazel of Palmyra, his sister Lynn (N. Lynn) Wakefield of Troy, North Carolina, brothers-in-law Jim (Ronda) Beller of Green Bay, and John Beller of Reeseville, and sister-in-law Peggy (Tim) Thrasher of Waukesha. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, including his daily coffee buddies, Dan, Tom, Ed and Jack.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-Law Ron and Jeanne Beller, his sisters Shirley (Glen) Campbell and Beverly (Bill) Pier, and his brother Byron. Visitation will be at Faith Baptist Church 3250 Summit Avenue Waukesha, WI 53188 on Saturday March 9, 2024, from 11:00 am until the funeral service begins at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dave Teasdale will preside. Graveside services with full military honors will follow the procession to Salem Cemetery in Wales.
